Best Free Book About God "Never to Return?" Synopsis (Pt1 Ch4)

Do Bible Prophecies Predict the Return of Jesus?

Bible prophecies about Jesus’ second coming are amazing. This chapter, “Never to Return?” focuses on the Christian belief that Jesus will one day return to this earth as “King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” The Bible prophets of Israel accurately predicted the first coming of Christ in great detail and the fulfillment of those Bible prophecies about Jesus has caused millions of people to believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and that He is the Son of God, Savior of humanity, and the long awaited Messiah of Israel. Jesus fulfilled more than 300 Messianic prophecies in His first appearance on earth. In His first advent, Jesus came to earth as the “Lamb of God” who would suffer and pay the ultimate price for the sins of the world. (Some these amazing prophecies were discussed in Part 1, Chapter 2 of the “Best Free Book about God.”)  What many people don’t realize is that there are nearly twice as many Bible prophecies that are relevant to the second coming of Christ and these prophecies that were written thousands of years ago are now being fulfilled in this very generation!

Israel as a whole rejected their Messiah at His first coming because they were looking for a deliverer who would better fit the role of the Messiah who was also predicted and portrayed by the Hebrew prophets to come as a conquering King. (This rejection by the vast majority of Israel was accurately prophesied in the 53rd chapter of Isaiah in the Bible about 700 years before Jesus came to this earth. However, by the end of the first century, there were still nearly 100,000 Jews in Israel who did believe that Jesus was Messiah.) Most of Israel failed to realize that the ancient prophecies were not about two different Messiahs but rather they were about one Messiah who would fulfill two different roles at different time periods in history. Jesus is “The Lamb of God” but He is also “The Lion of the tribe of Judah.” (The fact that Jesus conquered death and is still alive was discussed in Part 1, Chapter 3 in “The Best Free Book about God.”)

Upon witnessing the fulfillment of certain end time prophecies, some Christians through the ages have heralded the imminent return of Christ – only to be disappointed because their zeal was based upon partial knowledge of those end time prophecies. This misguided Christian zeal has caused many to conclude that the return of Jesus is a Christian fantasy. The pronouncements made by many well-meaning Christians concerning the second coming of Christ has often been damaging to the Christian faith. In some cases, predictions of Christ’s return have been very unbiblical as well when exact dates have been announced for the return of Jesus because Jesus Himself said that no man would know the hour or the day of His return – only His Father in Heaven would know. Many Christians failed to realize that certain significant prophetic events had to take place before the season of Christ’s return. (“Christ” means “Messiah” in Hebrew or “The Anointed One”). One of the major prophetic events that had to occur before the return of Christ seemed so impossible to so many Christian Bible teachers and students, that they often tried to “spiritualize” or explain away this seemingly impossible prophetic event. That event involved the physical restoration of Israel and the return of Jewish people, who were scattered throughout the earth, to their ancient homeland. However, against all odds, in 1948 Israel became a nation again and in 1967, Jerusalem was again restored to the Jewish people. There are several specific Bible prophecies, concerning these events, that were written in The Holy Scriptures thousands of years before their fulfillment. Centuries ago, certain Bible scholars and teachers were adamant about the necessity of the return of Israel to their homeland as a prerequisite of Christ’s return, even though they were mocked by their contemporaries because of the impossibility of such a literal fulfillment of prophecy. According to The Holy Scriptures, Jesus, the Messiah of Israel and Savior of the world will return to the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem from heaven when the Jewish people in Israel recognize that He really is the Messiah and when they cry out to Him and say “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord” (In Hebrew: “Baruch haba b’shem adonai”). Greater details concerning these end time prophecies and the predicted worldwide social and economic problems that will arise and cause the world to clamor for an unbiblical “Savior” known as “The Anti Christ” are also addressed in this chapter, “Never to Return?” in the “Best Free Book About God.” (There are differing opinions in Christianity about what or who the Anti Christ is. An exact understanding of “Anti Christ” is not essential in understanding the amazing end time prophecies about Jesus’ second coming). (By Robert Linkey)
